Prof. Dr. Selim Sivrioğlu

Head of Mechanical Engineering Department

Mechanical engineering is a field that utilizes science, mathematics, and economics to design industrial products, improve production methods, and solve technical problems that contribute to societal development. For this reason, mechanical engineering finds applications in various industries.

Mechanical engineering emerged with the invention of steam engines, internal combustion engines, and various mechanical devices, and it developed further with the impact of the Industrial Revolution. Mechanical engineers are involved in processes such as the design, production, testing, and maintenance of engines, industrial process equipment, thermal systems, and machine tools, as well as in sectors including defense, aviation, and information technology. They play a crucial role in enhancing the efficiency of systems and processes.

The Mechanical Engineering Department integrates academic knowledge, advanced laboratory facilities, and strong industrial connections in its education process, ensuring that students are well-prepared for the industry. Experienced faculty members equip students not only with theoretical knowledge but also with practical skills to prepare them for the future.
The department’s courses are conducted 100% in English. After completing basic science courses in the early semesters, students follow a curriculum that allows them to choose among general mechanical design, energy engineering, and mechatronics engineering based on their personal interests.

The Mechanical Engineering Department offers students extensive career opportunities through its strong collaborations with industry and academia, technological infrastructure, and research facilities. Professionally, graduates can find jobs in various industrial sectors, including shipyards, mechanical energy, automotive, and the design, maintenance, and development of cooling, heating, and ventilation systems. Academically, they can pursue master’s and doctoral programs in engineering, business, and social sciences.
